Bangalore

Mysore

Bidar
Bidar is a pleasant town with a splendid old fort containing the Ranjee
Mahal, Chini Mahal and Turkish Mahal Palaces. Jog Falls The Jog Falls are
the highest falls in India. The Shiravati River drops 253 meters in four
distinctly separate falls known as the Rani, Rocket, the Raja and the Roarer.
The most exciting view seems to be from the top of the Raja where you can
see the Raja falls over Roarer.
Aihole
Aihole has as many as 10 temples of ancient origin from AD 600 - 750. These
temples are good examples of the Hindu Medieval Art. Other temples are Durga
temple, Ladh Khan Temple.
Badami
Badami is noted for several temples. There are five caves altogether, four
of them artificial and one natural.
Pattadakkal
There is a Jain temple here, with its two stone elephants about one km from
the center, which is worth visiting.
Bellur
Belur in Hassan district is famous for its magnificent Hoysala Temple Complex.
The Chennakeshava temple here was completed by Hoysala Vishnuvardhana to
commemorate his victory over the Chola. It took 103 years to complete. The
facade of the temple is filled with intricate sculptures and fracas-with
no portion left blank. Elephants, episodes from the epics, sensous dancers
nothing was left uncarved.empire in 1336 A.D, with the help of his devotee
disciples Hakka and Bukka. Protected by the tempestuous river Tungabhadra
in the north and rocky granite ridge on the other three sides, the ruins
silently narrate the story of grandeur splendor and fabulous wealth.
Bandipur
Bandipur wildlife sanctuary is famous for Elephants, Bison, Spotted deer,
Sambar, Tiger and Leopard. This wildlife sanctuary is a part of a larger
National Park which also includes two of the neighbouring wildlife sancturies.
Hampi
Hampi were made out of stone Saint Vidyaranya established the seat of Vijayanagara

of the past, with a rich blend of cultural and historical tradition spanning

Nagarjuna Sagar
Nagarjunakonda is known for Buddhist sculptures, inscriptions and architecture
datable to the 3rd Century A. D. Yuan Chwang describes it as a monastery
on an isolated rock of a pyramidal shape with five stories, each ornamented
with the figure of an animal and with 1500 cells in all. The monastery had
an excellent water supply system. Windows were cut in the rock to let in
air and light.
Nellore
Nellore district, is the southern most coastal district in Andhra Pradesh
with Nellore as the District HeadQuarters.
Thirupathi
Tirumala and Tirupati are places well known all over India. Sri Venkateswara,
the presiding deity of Tirumala or Vengadam, is revered by lakhs of people
all over the country.
Warangal
Warangal means single stone. It was founded by Prola Raja of the Kakatiya
dynasty. It has hundreds of very beautiful temples.
Visakhapatnam
Once a small fishing village, Visakhapatnam has witnessed the reign of the
Satavahanas, the Chalukya Cholas and the Gajapathis of Kalinga.Then it was
also under the rule of the Vijayanagara Kings and the Qutub Shahis of Golkonda.
Later, the British transformed it into a port town.
Ananthapur
Gooty Fort is located in Anantapur. The town is said to have derived its
name from Goutamipuri the town of sage Goutama who is believed to have lived
and performed penance on a hillock called Gourigutta.
Chennai
Chennai, (formerly famous as Madras), is the gateway to South India. The
city boasts of the longest beach in Asia.
Chidambaram
Chidambaram has the oldest of Chola Temples. The 1000 Pillared Hall is a
sight one should not miss seeing. Pichavaram is the main picnic spot(16Kms)
here. Pichavaram houses a peculiar type of mangrove forest which is very
rare.
Mamallapuram
Mamallapuram, is the second capital of Pallava Kings. The Pallavas have
constructed many marvellous monuments here.
Mudumalai
Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary has 321 sq.kms of Tropical Wilderness.It is
a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere, where erstwhile British rulers lived in
the harsh Summer.
Kancheepuram
Kancheepuram is one of India's most spectacular temple cities. Between the
6th and 8th century AD, Kancheepuram was the great capital of Pallava Kings.
Thanjore
Thanjore was once the capital of the Chola empire. Thanjore has remained
as the heartland of glorious Chola culture.
Yercadu
Yercadu is situated at an altitude of 5000 feet above sea level. 'Yercadu'
is a quiet little sport-cum-health resort.
Trichy
Trichy houses the Rock Fort Temple. It is an ancient town in the Cauvery
delta and was a Chola citadel.
Madurai
Two thousand years ago, Madurai was the great capital of the Pandya Kings
and a center of Tamil culture and learning. In the older part of the town,
narrow streets are laid out in the pattern of a lotus. Its main attraction
is the famous Shree Meenakshi Temple in the heart of the town.
Rameswaram
It's conch shaped island. Legend has it, that Rama halted here after his
war with Ravana in order in worship Lord Shiva and do Penance for having
killed Ravana. The Ramanathaswamy temple which stands on this spot is visited
by millions of pilgrims who come to Rameshwaram every year. The temple is
known especially for its long corridors.
Ooty
This beautiful hill station is located in the Nilgiri hills at 2286mtr above
sea level. Ooty still has touch of the Raj about it with the cottages and
pretty gardens and stone churches and pretty gardens and stone chrches that
stand among groves of pine. A small little hill train chugs up daily to
Ooty from Mettupalayam in the plains. The journey is a marvellous experience.
It's a four hour climb to Ooty.
Kodaikanal
This is one of India's most beautiful hill stations frequented by tourists
in large numbers right through the year. The pride of Kodaikanal is the
'Kurinji-flower', which blossoms once in 12 years. The hill-plantain fruits
and plums are known for their freshness and taste.
Vedanthangal
Vedanthangal, is one of the largest bird sanctuaries in India. The annual
visitors - thousands of water birds-arrive to take up residence. Stork,
Egret, Darter, Cormorant, Pelican, Spoonbill, Ibis, Heron, Grebe and a great
many other species can be seen here during season.The birds can be viewed
from an observation tower on the tank bund.
Pondichery
Pondichery was formerly a French colony. There are many places to see here
like Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville, Aquarium, The French Institute, Raj
Nivas. Courtalam
The nine waterfalls here are Penaruvi, Chitaruvi, Shenvage Devi Falls, Thenaruvi,
Aintharuvi, Puliaruvi, Pazhathotaruvi. The Chittar river cascades in great
sheets over a 92m drop. The waters of courtallam have medical properties
as they run through a forest of herbs. The best season to visit this place
is from June to September.
Kanyakumari
The virgin goddess KanyaKumari has watched over the phenomenon since the
beginning of time; standing at the tip of the country in, as if, in an unending
vigil, with the waters of the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal
drawing to her feet. From the edge of the land, two rocks just out into
the sea .Swami-Vivekananda mandapam in one rock and Thrivualluvar Statu
in one rock which is one of the tallest statue in India
